Holiday Celebrations at NPH Nicaragua

On the days leading up to Christmas, we have purismas with a different group decorating the statue of Mary, and providing music and treats. Christmas Eve is celebrated with Mass and a special dinner. That is followed by a piñata and some of the children also prepare posadas – plays that depict scenes from the bible. There is also a bonfire, games and gifts. The celebration finishes with fireworks at midnight.

On December 26, pequeños who have families outside the home can go visit them until school starts in February.
