392 Haitian Refugees Arrive at NPH
Haiti is facing a severe humanitarian crisis, with violence from armed groups displacing hundreds of families searching for safety. NPH’s main children’s home, St. Hélène Foyer, which is located in the mountains of Kenscoff, was compelled to open its doors to accommodate 392 refugees, including 145 children.
February 21, 2025
There are 145 children and 247 adults who have lost everything—their homes, belongings, food, and clothing. With no safe shelter, they arrived at our Kenscoff property seeking protection and support.
The situation is urgent, and we need your help today.
Please make a gift to support the refugees in Haiti and all of NPH’s programs across nine countries.
Why We Need Your Help
These refugees, now sheltering in our school—which has been closed since the weekend—join the 340 children living in NPH’s residential center on the same premises, including 53 children with disabilities from the Kay Christine program and over 100 staff members, many of whom have also remained on-site seeking protection.
“The night was quiet, but there was a lot of fear. We are waiting for Father Rick, who will be arriving today with some aid for the refugees. Some of them plan to go further into the countryside, while others will head to Pétion-Ville,”—our sources in Kenscoff report. “We will have to find a way to manage what is happening. Inside, our children are safe, but they are very scared. We are in a situation where we don’t want nightfall to come, because it is terrifying.”
At this time, we are distributing basic food supplies such as rice, beans, oil, and water to both them and the children who were already living in our NPH home.
To continue providing assistance, we urgently need to acquire:
- Sacks of rice, beans, and oil to feed both the refugees and the children who are part of NPH.
- Gasoline to ensure the transportation of aid and to run generators.
Due to the country’s ongoing crisis, food prices in Haiti have risen significantly, with projected inflation reaching 25.8% in 2025. Prices fluctuate frequently due to economic and security conditions.
Our family in Haiti is facing a desperate situation. We need your timely support to ensure that our children and these desperate families can survive this critical moment.
We deeply appreciate your solidarity. In times of crisis, hope comes through acts of generosity. Thank you for being part of this mission of love and compassion.
