The NPH International Seattle Institute welcomes the class of 2019 – 2020.
About the Program
Founded in 1954 by Father William B. Wasson, NPH provides homes, health services and educational programs for vulnerable children and families who live in conditions of extreme poverty in Latin America and the Caribbean. One of Father Wasson’s dreams was that his children grow up to care for our ever-growing NPH family and to be responsive to their brothers and sisters in need, both at our NPH programs and in the neighboring communities. To cultivate future leaders, the NPH International Seattle Institute was founded in September 2011. The Institute strives to continue the education and leadership formation the participants received in their home countries, in order to prepare them to serve their countries and their NPH family in the future.
The Institute’s curriculum is based on principles of servant leadership and grounded in our NPH philosophy. Each participant:
- Lives with a homestay
- Works with an intergenerational mentor
- Studies intensive English at a community college
- Participates in job-shadowing, workshops, service activities and more
- Is coached in their personal growth by the program director and supporters
Since 2011, there have been 43 graduates from the Institute.
- 26 attend university
- 27 work full time
- 22 are employed by NPH

David, Mexico“I graduated from high school with a specialization in public accounting, and then served the NPH Mexico home for two years in different capacities while supporting our youth development group. After my year in Seattle I will begin my university studies in Mexico and work toward a Business Administration degree. I am happy to be part of the Seattle Institute program because I am excited to learn new things and step outside my comfort zone, while learning to be a competent leader so that I can help NPH in the future and where I am needed.” |
