GUEST SPEAKER
Esmeralda, NPH Guatemala Hermana Mayor
Esmeralda joined the NPH Guatemala family at three years old after her father passed away and her mother was unable to care for her and her siblings. Born with Myelomeningocele, the severest form of spina bifida, Esmeralda has endured many health challenges in her life. She has shown the world her unwavering resilience through multiple surgeries including spine surgery at birth, a hip surgery in 2003, a corrective surgery on her right foot in 2014, and most recently a hip replacement performed at the One World Surgery center, on-site at NPH Honduras, in December 2024. Her most recent surgery was a direct result of financial support from dedicated NPH donors. Esmeralda is currently attending University where she is studying to be an English teacher. She also works as a teacher part-time at a private English school near the NPH Guatemala home. Esmeralda is an active member of her community, giving back not only through teaching but by founding an animal rescue organization, Huellas de Villa, where she rescues stray cats and dogs, fundraising for their basic and medical needs.
