Dear [friends, colleagues, or Name] ,

If you’re like me, the hustle and bustle of daily life and thoughts of these uncertain times can consume us. Do we really have much capacity, emotionally or physically, to go beyond our own predicaments?

As a [doctor, nurse, medical professional,…] the approach of World Health Day on April 7  is a wake-up call for me. It reminds me of the horrific consequences of inequitable access to health care across the globe. And it spotlights our collective responsibility to show compassion for the least of our brothers and sisters.

Many of you already know that I have the honor of serving on the [Collaborative board of St. Damien Pediatric Hospital]. NPH’s St. Damien Pediatric Hospital  in Haiti is the only hospital in Haiti (pop. 11.5 million) wholly dedicated to pediatric and high-risk maternity care, and it is the only pediatric cancer care facility. To be direct, without support of this hospital from folks like us, thousands of children and newborns would perish. The brave, dedicated, and skilled medical staff rely upon help from outside of Haiti.

Haiti has the highest maternal and infant mortality rates in the Western Hemisphere. Haitian women die due to complications from childbirth at a rate 17 times higher than in the United States. And Haitian infants die at a rate 8 times greater than in the United States. It is estimated that 1 in 16 Haitian children will die of treatable illnesses before their 5th birthday.

World Health Day spotlights these hard truths and urges us to take action.

I humbly ask you to consider making a gift to St. Damien Pediatric Hospital. You will…

  • Provide essential medical care to children and expectant mothers
  • Combat chronic malnutrition through intervention programs
  • Offer high-quality maternity care to at-risk mothers
  • Treat and prevent deadly diseases through vaccination programs
  • Provide specialized care, including oncology and surgical interventions

Your support can help bring hope and wellness to those who need it most. This World Health Day, we have an opportunity—a calling—to respond to the tremendous need in Haiti. Please donate to St. Damien Pediatric Hospital today.
