Celebrating John Shinsky’s Birthday
A Birthday Gift to Delight John and his Beloved Pequeños!
A former orphan, John Shinsky had a dream to build an orphanage which would provide children in need with adequate food, shelter, safety, job training, love, and support.
“Matamoros, Mexico, is plagued by poverty and violence from drug gangs,” said John. “Thousands of children live on $1.00 per day and sleep in cardboard houses with only the garbage dump as their neighborhood.”
These terrible living conditions for children in Matamoros drove John and his wife Cindy to found Ciudad de los Niños, “City of the Children,” a home for orphaned and abandoned children in 2005. In 2009, John partnered with Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos International (NPHI) and its American fundraising arm, NPH USA, to combine operational resources for the shared mission of transforming the lives of vulnerable children in Matamoros.
Today nearly 40 children in Ciudad de los Niños rely upon the goodness of donors for healthcare, education, training, and opportunities that transform them into self-sufficient adults who enthusiastically give back to their brothers and sisters and their community in beautiful ways.
Gifts in honor of John will be allocated toward Ciudad de los Niños in Matamoros.
Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH) means “Our Little Brothers and Sisters” in Spanish. NPH USA transforms the lives of vulnerable children in Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Peru. Together, we help children overcome poverty and become productive, caring leaders in their own communities. Founded in 1954 by Father William Wasson, NPH is supporting nearly 8,000 children, both inside and outside our homes, ensuring they have a safe and nurturing place to live, an education, clothing, healthcare, and a strong family support system.
