“There are certain places on this planet where you can go and certain things that you can see that fundamentally change you. The country of Haiti and St. Damien Pediatric Hospital had that indelible effect on me.

Throughout production of the film, I was able to witness the indefatigable staff at St. Damien care for the most marginalized children at their most vulnerable time. I observed premature newborns defy all the odds and survive, intrepid toddlers fight heroic battles against cancer, and courageous children stricken with all sorts of ailments make full and miraculous recoveries. All of this was possible because of the existence of St. Damien Pediatric Hospital.

Haiti is an impoverished country with many chronic problems, but it is also comprised of extraordinary people who embody the dignity, joy, and hope to accomplish any goal and climb any mountain. We are all a part of this shared humanity and the responsibility of those living in the developed world to walk together, side-by-side, with our brothers and sisters toward a brighter future is very real.

No matter who you are, no matter where you live, there are always mountains to climb. In Haiti, those mountains are just a bit higher.”
