$40,000 #GivingTuesday match

#GivingTuesday was launched in 2012 as a simple idea: to create a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past eight years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
Every NPH home, program, community, and child relies upon generous donations to keep afloat, to survive. For this Giving Tuesday, we share stories of the devastating condition and need in Haiti.

In the Streets of Haiti
Communities in Haiti are still sorting through the wreckage from the earthquake, as you can see from the photos our on-the-ground team took while delivering supplies. They reported: “The streets of the city of Les Cayes as well as the vague spaces used to set up tents for some people flooded. Many people with no other alternative took shelter in houses with raised stilts at the risk of collapse at the slightest shock.”
As if the structural damage hasn’t taken enough of a toll on men, women, and children in Haiti, they have also fallen victim to savage crime from gangs trying to survive by preying on others.

Report from our staff:
One of the big issues we must worry about right now is the safety of our staff and the goods to be transported. As a result, we are obliged to hire a group of off-duty policemen to accompany the first expedition, in the hope of getting us to port. We have tremendous increased expenses related to fuel and transportation costs and the necessity for bulked up security measures in our home to protect pequeños and staff. Gratefully, we have obtained medical supplies and treatments to try to keep people safe and healthy.
Ongoing fuel shortages and persistent violence have threatened to close the hospital. The situation remains very difficult, but the staff has hope that things will improve soon. One positive note is that the entire oncology staff has received the COVID-19 vaccine, while approximately 90% of employees overall are now vaccinated. The hospital also is offering the vaccine to patients.
The need is very great and very urgent. Amid all the appeals you are receiving for #GivingTuesday, please give whatever you are able to give now. And please keep the dear people of Haiti in your mind, heart, and prayers. Thank you.
