Regional Director’s Message

The leaves are changing color, the days are shorter, even a mist of light snow and the cool breezy days show us Autumn is here and Winter is near!  October is our traditional month for our annual Celebrando a los Ninos Gala.  It was a spectacular event honoring five Rose Schaffhausen recipients: Laurel Boerger, Kathy and Richard Jordan, Ginny and Jerry L’Allier, Kathleen Standing, and Claire Topp. With over 400 attendees present together we raised over $380,000 to support our NPH program and our kids.

I acknowledge there were a few hiccups during the evening and I’d like to seek your involvement on our Gala committee.  Our goal is to continue to grow our fundraising efforts for the kids. I am looking for committee volunteers to assist in making decisions for 2019 which includes: space, location, parking, program, games, silent, and live auction items. Your input is valuable and committee members are needed to ensure Celebrando a los Ninos is an outstanding fun and entertaining event with a goal of raising more and more for the kids each year.

Our NPH Nicaragua Pequenos were unable to fulfill their opportunity to travel here to Minnesota due to the unrest that continues in the country of Nicaragua. We were blessed and thankful NPH El Salvador was able to step in with five students, Irwin the music teacher and Carmina the chaperone. The Pequeno Tour lasted for twelve days and the students visited, performed, spoke, toured, observed classrooms, and enjoyed some site seeing in Minnesota too. Please know that your input and partnerships are valued and appreciated.  Our Pequeno Tour thrives on new, past, and renewed partnerships.  Please contact me to share potential host parishes, school visits, and performance locations for 2019.

There are many upcoming opportunities to become involved.  We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events listed.  Please continue to be advocates for the NPH children and sharing opportunities for child sponsorship with your friends and family.  If you would like to host a fiesta, tasting or gathering of your friends, family, co-workers to help raise funds for the NPH homes, children and their programs please contact me and I’d be thrilled to assist in securing a date and finding a speaker.
