NPH USA Midwest Region’s 2018 Football Legends Classic Golf Outing

A good time was had by all at the sixth edition of our Football Legends Classic Golf Outing held on August 13 at Biltmore Country Club in North Barrington, IL. The golf course was in excellent condition, and the recently redecorated clubhouse was beautiful. Equally beautiful were the spirit and generosity of the 21 foursomes in attendance. The weather was perfect. Add the above with 21 former NFL players and legendary sports broadcaster Bob Costas as our emcee, the result was quite probably our best golf outing ever in the way that everything came together to produce an outstanding event experience for our participants.

After a delicious lunch, the NFL players and Bob Costas formed a tunnel through which all the participants passed shaking hands and giving/receiving high fives.

Once through the tunnel, the players headed off to their carts and to their respective holes for the shotgun start.  They played a best ball fivesome tournament, the winners of which this year were Sedric Audas, Bruce Hendy, Rick Lasch, and Casey Lubahn and Ed “Too Tall” Jones.

Bob Costas delighted the dinner audience as our volunteer emcee.  During his introductory remarks, Bob explained how he visited NPH Guatemala several years ago.  He talked about child sponsorship and his experience of sponsoring four NPH pequeños.  Bob also introduced all the NFL legends in attendance, adding some wonderful anecdotes and amazing statistics to many of the former players.  NPH USA is very grateful to Bob for volunteering his time on behalf of the pequeños.

John Shinsky chaired the Golf Outing Committee this year, and we are most thankful to him for all he does to promote the mission of NPH.  John encouraged everyone in attendance to mark Monday, August 12 in their 2019 calendars as the date of next year’s NPH USA Football Legends Classic Golf Outing.

As of the writing of this newsletter, it is too early to provide an accurate total of the amount raised at the golf outing, but it is safe to say that it generated in excess of $200,000 in support of the NPH mission.  Many thanks to all who participated in this spectacular event.
