Critical Care for Children and Expectant Mothers
As the only hospital in Haiti solely dedicated to pediatric, prenatal and high-risk maternity care, St. Damien Pediatric Hospital fills a critical gap in health care services. Serving a nation of nearly 12 million people, it remains the only pediatric oncology facility in the country.
Without financial support from people outside Haiti, thousands of children with treatable illnesses would face preventable suffering or death. Similarly, thousands of mothers would lack the prenatal care necessary for safe childbirth and healthy children.
The Vital Need for St. Damien Pediatric Hospital
Haiti remains the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. The nation’s fragile healthcare infrastructure leaves the most vulnerable—children and expectant mothers—at the greatest risk of debilitating illness, acute malnutrition, and mortality.
Key Health Challenges in Haiti
- INFANT MORTALITY CRISIS
- MATERNAL MORTALITY CRISIS
- LIFE-THREATENING FOOD INSECURITY AMONG CHILDREN

A Legacy of Compassion and Excellence in Medical Care and Empowering the Community

With 224 beds and a team of about 500 courageous and dedicated Haitian staff members, including 300 healthcare professionals, the hospital delivers approximately 50,000 medical services annually.
These services include:
- Emergency care
- Surgery
- Chronic malnutrition treatment
- Infectious disease care
- Specialized pediatric oncology services
A Premier Pediatric Hospital in Haiti: Saving Lives for Over 35 Years
Founded in 1989 by Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH), meaning “Our Little Brothers and Sisters” in Spanish, St. Damien Pediatric Hospital was inspired by the vision of Fr. William Wasson and Fr. Rick Frechette, CP, D.O. After witnessing first-hand the staggering number of children in Haiti who were dying from treatable conditions, Fr. Rick pursued a medical degree in New York to better serve the people of Haiti.
Since then, under the leadership of Fr. Rick and two accomplished medical directors, St. Damien has earned its reputation as the leading pediatric and high-risk maternity hospital in Haiti
The hospital’s life-saving work is only possible through the generosity of private donors and compassionate supporters from around the globe.
