In this six-part video series, Archbishop of New York Ronald A. Hicks reflects on how NPH shaped his life, his ministry, and his lifelong commitment to children.
His connection to NPH spans decades, beginning with his volunteer service at NPH Mexico in 1989. From 2005 to 2010, he served as Regional Director of NPH Central America, accompanying children, caregivers, and staff across El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.
This year, the NPH family will gather in Scottsdale, Arizona, for the Be the Light: Father Wasson Celebration Weekend, taking place October 23–25, 2026. The weekend commemorates the 20th anniversary of NPH Founder Father William B. Wasson’s passing and invites us to reflect on the light he left behind—and our shared responsibility to carry it forward.
Archbishop of New York Ronald A. Hicks, will join the celebration as emcee and guest of honor. He will also host the private Father Wasson’s Circle of Light reception on Friday evening, where he will share personal stories and memories of Father William Wasson with event sponsors.
For Archbishop Hicks, NPH has always been about more than providing services. It is about creating lasting relationships and a place where children know they belong.
In the first video, he reflects on the importance of the NPH mission and the difference compassionate, consistent care can make in the life of a child.
His years with NPH also gave Archbishop Hicks a profound experience of family. Living alongside children and caregivers allowed him to witness the love, responsibility, and sense of belonging at the heart of the NPH community.

The influence of NPH remains visible in Archbishop Hicks’ life today—even within his episcopal coat of arms. A heart honors his years of service with NPH, while a sprig of rosemary represents Saint Óscar Romero. His motto, Paz y Bien, means “Peace and Good.”
Together, these symbols reflect the people, places, and experiences that helped shape his vocation.
Central to that story is Father William B. Wasson, whose compassionate response to one child grew into an international family dedicated to caring for children and helping them realize their potential.

The Be the Light Celebration Weekend will bring together longtime supporters, Hermanos Mayores, National Board Members, friends, and members of the wider NPH family.
Throughout the weekend, guests will have opportunities to reconnect, share memories, learn more about Father Wasson’s life, and celebrate the mission he began. Events include a welcome reception, an interactive Mission Walk through Old Town Scottsdale, the Be the Light Celebration with Archbishop Hicks as emcee and guest of honor, and a Sunday Mass presided over by Archbishop Hicks and Father Pedro Arteaga.
