Regional Director’s Message

Happy summer to all of our NPH supporters throughout the Northwest!

Crowes golfI’m so pleased to share more about the tremendous success of our second annual NW Golf Classic at Newcastle Golf Club. This year we sold out the course again with 144 golfers and welcomed 31 new and returning corporate sponsors, including title sponsor Arena Sports, Oppenheimer & Co., Manini’s, Alexander Gow Fire Equipment, and many others. During the day we enjoyed lunch from food trucks before teeing off and tasty bites and beer from our in kind sponsors on the course.  At our Awards Banquet we were inspired by NPH students Alberto and Julio, who shared more about NPH and their own experience, and we gave out some fantastic awards, auction items and raffle prizes.  Longtime supporter Paul Aigner gave a moving testimonial about his family’s involvement with NPH.  We even had a player make a double eagle (three under par) on one of the holes!  We were thrilled to raise more than $85,000 for our kids this year – a huge increase that will have a huge impact for NPH.  Many thanks to our golf committee, sponsors, and everyone who came out to play and support our kids.  We are already looking forward to next year’s event!

Summertime remains busy for all of us.  On June 1, we moved into a great new space in same office building at 1800 112th Ave NE, in Bellevue, Washington.  If you are in the area, we hope you will come stop by and say hello.  Last week we said goodbye to longtime staff member Hailey Rademacher, whose passion for NPH and contributions to our team have been incredible over the past 3.5 years. We are also excited to announce that Ross Egge will be joining the NW team as our new Development Manager in September.  Ross has been involved with NPH for many years – as a visitor, sponsor, volunteer, and staff, working in the NPH homes in Mexico, Nicaragua, the DR, and Honduras, where he currently serves as Co-National Director.  Ross is an expert on NPH’s programs, and passionate about helping NPH expand its financial resources to do more for our children.  We look forward to having Ross represent NPH USA in the Northwest and help us continue to grow.

This month we also welcome ten staff members of NPH International, many of whom are “hermanos mayores” (older brothers and sisters who grew up at NPH), to Seattle for a month of leadership training with our partner organization, iLEAP. Many of the participants are staying with NPH supporters and Board members, and we have already been welcoming them to Seattle and watching them grow and learn.  If you’re in Seattle, you can come meet these leaders and celebrate their progress at the iLEAP graduation on Thursday, June 30 – email me at khultquist@nphusa.org for details.  We also have two trips heading to NPH this summer – one mission trip with school partner Eastside Catholic, and one donor trip that NPH Director of Family Services Donna Egge and I will be leading – both to Nicaragua. I can’t wait to share stories from our visits with the children.
