In 1954, a young boy named Carlos entered a church in Cuernavaca, Mexico, driven by hunger. Instead of punishment, he was met with compassion.
Father William B. Wasson asked the court for custody of Carlos so he could provide food, care, and the chance for a different future. Soon, more children were entrusted to his care. By the end of that year, 32 boys were living together as a family.
That first act of mercy became the foundation of Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos. What began with one child grew into a mission rooted in dignity, responsibility, and love.
Today, that promise continues through the children and families NPH serves across Latin America and the Caribbean.
In 2026, we mark 20 years since the passing of Father William B. Wasson, founder of NPH.
This moment invites us to reflect on the light he left behind and the mission that continues today through the children, families, caregivers, and supporters who carry it forward.
What began as one act of compassion has grown into a family of care across Latin America and the Caribbean. Today, Father Wasson’s legacy lives on through NPH’s residential programs, community programs, and St. Damien Pediatric Hospital in Haiti. Through this work, children and families receive care, stay connected, access specialized health services, and build brighter futures with dignity and hope.
By making a gift to Be the Light, you help honor Father Wasson’s legacy and support the children and families who depend on NPH today and tomorrow.
