Donation – In Memory of Barbara Liem

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Liem of Tempe, Arizona, on January 30, 2026. NPH mourns the loss of a long-time beloved and dedicated benefactor.

Over 50 years ago, Barbara and Don Liem traveled to NPH Mexico, which at the time was the only NPH home. Ever since that visit and meeting Father Wasson, they tirelessly demonstrated their commitment to the children of NPH. In the early 1990s, Don served as Executive Director of the Arizona office of Friends of the Orphans (now NPH USA Southwest Region) and Barbara was a volunteer staff person. Don subsequently served as President of the Board of Directors and then as a member of the Southwest Regional Board for many years.

Barbara and Don raised millions of dollars to benefit the children of NPH. They sponsored numerous children and welcomed many into their home as students. They also opened their home to visiting NPH staff members. Following Don’s passing on July 31, 2018, Barbara continued to host NPH family members. In addition, she hosted and helped with numerous fundraising events at her home. She regularly attended NPH USA events, and brought countless generous donors to NPH.

In 2024, Barbara was honored with the Spirit of Father Wasson Award at the NPH 70th Anniversary Family Gala in Arizona.

Barbara’s amazing life will be celebrated on Thursday, February 12, 2026, with a viewing at 10 a.m. Arizona time followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m., at Arizona Community Church, 9325 South Rural Road, Tempe, AZ 85284.
