A Request from the CEO
September 13, 2021
The last 18 months have been incredibly hard, for everyone, around the world, with little to no exception. Our NPH programs, in all nine countries of operation have inspired us with their resiliency and commitment to the children, families and communities we serve. Yet the toll from COVID, storms, political unrest, earthquakes and economic disasters continues to challenge this work of love and response we are all a part of.
No country has been spared, but as you may well know, Haiti has taken the hardest hits. The 7.4 earthquake followed by a tropical storm were only the most recent in the long string of crises the island nation has faced. COVID was tricky with a delayed wave of devastation laying wake on the extreme political and economic distress already plaguing the country. A presidential assassination and the turmoil that followed only further enflamed the dangerous unrest and violence.
It may have been crowded out in news stories, but the recovery efforts and response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti is still urgent! The need and response to the ongoing litany of crises facing the island nation continues.
And children need a safe place to sleep, to learn, to play, to heal and dream.
Now more than ever, Haiti needs our solidarity – the crisis from the recent assassination of the president, the stress of the pandemic, the escalation of crime and kidnapping, and now in desperate need for food, medical supplies and basic necessities, your support is critical to aid the most vulnerable of children and families. How can one country withstand so much devastation?
As a supporter of our work, we are asking you to join hands with us to help our NPH Haiti Family.
From reports of the medical teams on the ground and staff at the homes, we know that children, mothers and their families are suffering… supplies are in need and recovery is going to be slow. As such, we are focusing the NPH USA Grand Gala Weekend on October 22 and 23, 2021, on the health and happiness of the children we serve.
We will gather virtually on Friday evening for the St. Damien Collaborative Event to support NPH’s St. Damien Pediatric Hospital in Haiti. Founded in 1989, St. Damien is the premier children’s hospital in the nation and serves high-risk pregnant women and children. The St. Damien Collaborative for the Improvement of Pediatrics in Haiti is a unique partnership of pediatric residency programs from Haiti and the United States. The members of the collaborative work together to elevate the standard of pediatric health care throughout Haiti.
On Saturday evening, join us regionally at in-person events, or online at our national virtual gala as we learn about the thousands of children and families in Latin America and the Caribbean whose lives are being transformed with the support of NPH and YOU. We believe that every child deserves to reach their full potential and realize their hopes and dreams. You have the opportunity to share happiness and help provide children in need with safe homes, food, clothing, healthcare, an education and a loving global family.
The Grand Gala Weekend will feature Fr. Rick Frechette who has been internationally recognized for giving over 35 years as a missionary in Mexico, Honduras, and Haiti. Fr. Rick has dedicated his life to making those who suffer and live in poverty NPH’s urgent priority for medical care. Fr. Rick will speak first-hand about current realities in Haiti how NPH is making a difference in the lives of the children and families we serve in Haiti and across the region.
We are counting on our NPH USA family now more than ever to join us for this upcoming event and support our efforts in providing through our NPH Haiti Ministries/Programs:
- Psychological support for all of our children
- Emergency provisions for those who have lost their homes and livelihood
- Medical supplies for those who have been injured

- St. Damien Pediatric Hospital provides an average of over 80,000 medical services each year
Here’s how you can help:
